New Beginning

I have never been one for “New Year Resolutions”. The major reason is because I never keep them. But I think I’ve been “resolving” all wrong. It was a quote by Ellen Goodman that made me realize this. Some typical resolutions are to lose weight, stop smoking, get organized, spend more time with family, etc. But there is an important factor being left out of these resolutions…the “how”. How are you going to loose weight? It would be more effective to resolve to go to the gym at least three times a week for the next year.  It’s a measurable goal that is totally obtainable. So that’s why I’m creating a list, “10 Goals for 2010″.

1. Participate in a snowshoe race.

2. Run another half marathon and improve upon my time from last year.

3. Use each Sunday afternoon/evening for grad school studying.

4. Be baptized

5. Read “Catcher in the Rye” and “Franny and Zooey”

6. Say at least one uplifting and encouraging thing to my husband each day.

7. Don’t change my blog url or theme for an entire year.

8. Wash face and brush teeth each night before bed (I’m tired of getting cavities filled.)

9. Enter my photography in at least one contest this year.

10. Once a month treat myself to a “guilt-free” purchase such as a massage or a manicure. (I’m a pretty strict penny pincher but need to accept that I deserve a little pampering and am totally worth it!)

What are your goals for the new year?

We spend January walking through our lives, room by room, drawing up a list of cracks to patched. Maybe this year we ought to walk through the rooms of our lives… not looking for flaws, but for potential.

I have several running goals this year. I’m actually doing a snowshoe race next weekend. As well as planning on a few others, let me know when you have time to do one. Also I’m going to try to do the Run for the Border Half Marathon at the end of March. It’s a nice flat coastal run.

I need to enter pictures in contests again too.

Good goals. Most totally achievable :)

I so wish I could be there to see you baptized! God is so good. Have you read the Purpose Driven Life? I have started it, but never finished it. Thinking about doing that this year. I am currently reading a book called ‘love & respect’ – awesome book about marriage. We need to catch up. Phone date this weekend?

–>Love the new blog look/name (again).
I finally spelled my blog name correctly so reading how you won’t change your look/name this year made me chuckle. I Can Relate!

Hi Friend… I like the new site, but am unable to read anything. If I click a story to “read more” it goes to another page but with errors…. I can’t handle it. I must READ your blog!

It seems to be an issue in IE7. I am trouble shooting some resolutions and should have it fixed soon. Thanks for letting me know. You rock!

I was thinking the same thing… about the phone date. I was thinking about you a lot this weekend!

Thanks! Committing to one look and one url has proven way to difficult for me.

I really enjoyed your list of 10 to do’s this year. I also would love to be there when your baptized. Can you slow down the pictures at the beginning? I cant decide what I want to read because the pictures are moving to fast or I’m reading to slow. Remember there are slow old people reading your blog and we want an equal opportunity to enjoy all the pictures….Really love the new sleek look.

James and I have found that instead of New Years resolutions, we make 3 big goals on our birthday to be accomplished during our 27th year. I also make a fun collage that we put on the inside of our bathroom medicine cabinet that reminds us each morning of what we want to accomplish. I once heard if you see a visual reminder of your goal often, you are more likely to succeed. I have to brag… last year we both accomplish our goals and are looking forward to this year!
